Job Summary

Position Overview Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Buyer to manage the procurement of ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies for their food manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials while maintaining quality standards and supporting production schedules. The Buyer will work closely with production, quality assurance, inventory management, and suppliers to maintain optimal inventory levels and ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations. Key Responsibilities Procurement & Sourcing Source and purchase raw ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies required for production. Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, service, and reliability. Issue purchase orders and monitor order status to ensure on-time delivery. Maintain accurate procurement records in the ERP/MRP system. Supplier Management Develop and maintain relationships with approved suppliers. Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms to improve cost efficiency. Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery delays, or shortages. Identify and qualify alternative suppliers to reduce supply risk. Inventory & Production Support Monitor inventory levels and demand forecasts to ensure adequate material supply. Coordinate with production planning and warehouse teams to align purchasing with manufacturing schedules. Manage safety stock levels to avoid stockouts or excess inventory. Cost Management Track material costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements. Support budgeting and cost analysis initiatives. Assist with supplier bids and RFQs. Compliance & Quality Ensure purchased materials meet food safety and regulatory standards. Work with Quality Assurance to ensure suppliers comply with GMP, HACCP, and food safety requirements. Maintain documentation for supplier certifications and approvals. Qualifications Required Bachelor?s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience) 2 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in manufacturing Experience with ERP/MRP systems Strong negotiation and supplier management skills Excellent organizational and analytical skills Proficiency in Excel and purchasing systems Preferred Experience in food manufacturing or CPG Knowledge of ingredient sourcing, packaging procurement, or commodity purchasing Familiarity with food safety regulations (GMP, HACCP, SQF, etc.)
